While the very necessary but very unphotogenic HVAC system is being installed, we have been occupying our time with our newest farm additions. On nov 27th (after being lost by the post office font about 18 hours) we received a shipment of 13 chickens and 3 ducks.
We lost 1 baby chicken to the long trip in the mail. and 1 duck to an awful owl!!!!
A little over a month later, we have 12 chickens. 3 buff orpingtons, 3 barred, 1 white leghorn, 1 black austrolorp, 1 blue and red laced Wyandotte, 1 Rhode Island Red, and 2 completely unknown buff colored baby girls. We also have 2 Peking ducks.
Everyone is living happily and safely in the chicken house at the farm with 3 heat lamps, 1 pond, 1 5 gallon water jug and 2 fantastic boxes to keep the heat in on the cold winter nights.
The chickens are soooo sweet! Almost all of them will allow the children to pet and or hold them. The ducks are still a bit freaked out from the owl incident. But I’m sure they will come around.
🙂
And the evil predator…
